Usually the Hubs and I handle are our own home improvement projects. Due to an unfortunate broken leg, we had to call in the professional big (nail) guns for this one! Not wanting to be a stick in the mud and potentially pausing our Mudroom project, Hubs researched for weeks to find the perfect contractor for the job. Continue reading “Making of a Coastal Mudroom”
The Ultimate Outdoor Kitchen
One night at dinner, my husband mentioned something in passing about building an outdoor kitchen. It was so out of the blue that I honestly did not put a thought to it.
Then when he mentioned it again, I humored him and asked him what it would look like. His answer blew me away.
Slab Leak? Don’t Freak: Tips to Survive a Slab Leak and Home Re-Plumb
A sound haunted me in the night… hisssssssssssss …….. Could it be the kid’s sound machine? No. It was a different pitch. I swiftly followed it all the way to the half bathroom like a bluetick hound on the hunt. “Please don’t be a snake, please don’t be a snake,” I prayed to myself as I mustered up the courage to turn on the light. Ok, here goes. Continue reading “Slab Leak? Don’t Freak: Tips to Survive a Slab Leak and Home Re-Plumb”
Pavered Pool Decking
Did you know that statistically, the best time to purchase a home with a pool is in January? With the exception of a few days here and there Continue reading “Pavered Pool Decking”
Cabinet Covered Spice Rack Pull Out
In my career, I’ve literally walked through thousands of homes. One of the ever interesting perks of that is getting to see the creative things that people have done to their house. Every once in a while, I’ll come across something I haven’t seen before that makes you go, “Wow! That’s really cool!” Continue reading “Cabinet Covered Spice Rack Pull Out”
Ditch the Dining Room and Opt for Office?
How many times do you eat in your formal dining room? Every night? Every Sunday? Every…. Thanksgiving?
At my Mumsie’s house, nearly every family meal is eaten in her dining room (aside from her bacon and iced tea breakfast).
On the flip side, I can honestly count on one hand the times we’ve sat at our table. I even set it for Christmas last year and everyone still congregated in the family room instead.

Glass Backsplash
Once I said “goodbye” to the beautiful travertine backsplash in my once traditional kitchen, we needed to find a comparable replacement. I had a very specific color in mind for the backsplash in my Coastal Kitchen renovation. Sea glass green, but not sage, with a hint of blue, but not turquoise. And I wanted it to be glass. Totally easy to find, right?… Continue reading “Glass Backsplash”
Coastal Kitchen Renovation
I feel like approaching your thirties causes you to sit back and begin to truly self assess who you are as a person. What do you want out of life? What do you enjoy doing with your spare time? What is your style? Coming into six years of being in the same house, I finally decided to do a complete overhaul on our home- beginning with the Kitchen.
Granite vs. Quartz vs. Marble
Not too long ago, advertising granite countertops in a home for sale was a HUGE selling point: “Kitchen boasts GRANITE countertops!” YIPPEE!
Once the gorgeous stone picked up traction in the design world, nearly every new build home or renovated home had granite somewhere- kitchen, the master bath, or the guest bath (more often chosen first because visitors would see it before they’d see the master).
Nowadays, you’ll see more homes having other stone and solid surface material countertops such as Quartz and Marble installed.
But what’s the big difference? They’re all just rocks …right?
Here’s a brief breakdown in some differences between the three top stones.
Retiling Shower Floor
Let’s get one thing straight- tile should never have a bounce to it. Ever. One day while taking a shower, I noticed a little spring in my footing. Chalking it up to perhaps an extra pep in my step from getting both babies in bed early, I didn’t give it much thought. A few days later, same place and time, there was an audible *pop*. Hmmmm…..
